OUTDOOR POOLS & SPAS

bar

outdoor1 This pool is located in Lake Forest, Illinois, with landscape design by Peter Cummin, and is built of monolithic reinforced concrete with an epoxy enamel surface. Our pool design features a fountain above the pool behind the retaining wall, with a spray head and in floor lights controlled from inside the house. The fountain contains pool water which falls down at the front into the pool. The deck is bluestone and brick. This project, built in 1989 received an NSPI Gold Medal.

outdoor2.jpg This pool is located in Glencoe, Illinois, with landscape design by Chalet Landscape, Inc. The pool is built of monolithic reinforced concrete with an epoxy enamel surface. The deck is Mexican Tile over concrete, to mirror the Spanish architectural style of the house and cabana. The pool system includes an electrically operated cover, which in this photo is totally retracted.

outdoor3.jpg Located in Lake Geneva, Wisconsin, with landscape design by Jacobs/Ryan, both pool and spa are built of monolithic reinforced concrete with an epoxy enamel surface. The pool and spa were built so that the tops of both are approximately 3 1/2 feet above the original grade. The stone walls were then built five feet tall to create a five foot high barrier around the area without using fencing. There is more than 3 feet of fill beneath the brick deck. The outside walls around the area make a comfortable seat at the pool deck side.

outdoor4.jpg This monolithic reinforced concrete pool with landscape design by Peter Cummin, is coated in graphite colored epoxy enamel and features bluestone coping and a Bedford limestone deck. The pool is set down into the sloping yard so that when viewed from a distance, the pool is not seen at all. The pool location is in Lake Forest, Illinois.

outdoor13a.jpg This pool, completed in 2002, measuring 75' X 82', with a 12' deep diving well and one meter diving board, was built for the Brandywine Townhome Ass'n, in Villa Park, Illinois. The pool, designed and built by Carefree Pools, contains 165,000 gallons of water and has a State of Illinois authorized bather load of 476 people at one time.
outdoor13b.jpg This photo shows the structure under construction, on the day when the pool shell concrete work was being done. Note the extensive grid of 1/2" reinforcing rods at 12" on center each direction.
outdoor13c.jpg This photo shows how the concrete is placed. The concrete is pumped from the RediMix truck through a hose, then mixed with compressed air and literally "shot" out of the nozzle or "gun" onto the intended surface. This process is technically called "shotcrete" and generically called "gunite".
outdoor13d.jpg Toward the end of the day, here we see the results of twenty skilled craftsmen, working together to produce our typical "first class" reinforced concrete pool shell. Given reasonable care and annual proper winterizing, this pool should have a usable life of 50 years or more.

Lake Michigan Pool This photo shows a recently built pool jutting out of the bluff above Lake Michigan. It has a mechanical pool cover which actually floats on the water surface when the cover is closed for security and safety.
Lake Michigan Pool This photo shows the above pool uncovered with the normal water level six inches below the deck so that the cover can float on it when closed.
Lake Michigan Pool At a "click" on a computer, 5,700 gallons of water come out of a buried tank and flood the pool over the top on all four sides to create a modified "beach entry" type pool. This pool won a 2011 International Gold Medal in the design contest put on by the Association of Pool and Spa Professionals (APSP) our national trade association.

outdoor5a.jpg This commercial Gunite concrete pool was built in 1998 for the Middlefork Tennis Club in Northfield, Illinois. It has a white "Marcite" plaster surface, and features four 25 meter swim lanes plus a 20' X 40' diving well with a one meter diving board. There is also an offset step into a "kiddie pool" area shown in the foreground of this photo. The landscape design is by Chris Thomas.
outdoor5b.jpg This is a second view of the same pool shown above. The diving well area is in the foreground. This property is located on a flood plain, so to help guard against possible pool floatation, the pool was built partially above ground using concrete retaining wall blocks to retain the raised deck area.

outdoor7.jpg This pool, located in Lake Forest, Illinois, was built of monolithic reinforced concrete in 1998. It features a spa in the circular area at the far end, complete with an in-house computerized control system and spa-side "Smart Switch" to over ride the remote controls. The deck and coping are New York Bluestone.
